Gresey: Getting your news into The Republicans
One of the best characteristics of a local weekly newspaper is the connection it shares with its readers.
Those who pick up a weekly paper should be able to find out what newsworthy events happened in their community over the past week, as well as significant activities planned for the week ahead.
Readers of a weekly publication often will be familiar with the names and faces of those who appear on the pages of the newspaper. Maybe they recognize the name of a city alderman or the face of a business owner who has been photographed at his shop. Maybe they know the name of a neighbor who is hosting a fundraiser for a family in need, or recognize the image of a prep athlete who just scored a game-winning touchdown.
A local weekly newspaper should strive to provide its readers with relevant community news, and that is the mission the St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia Republicans have been rededicating themselves to since they were acquired by Shaw Media on Oct. 1.
It is an honor for Shaw Media to serve the residents of the Tri-Cities, not only through The Republicans but also through the Kane County Chronicle.
While the Chronicle will continue to serve the Tri-Cities and surrounding communities in print Tuesday through Saturday (and on Mondays through its online-only edition), The Republicans will provide supplemental coverage in print on Thursdays.
We'd love to get your news into the paper.
Those with story ideas can contact me using the information at the end of this column. Photos can be sent to me as well.
In addition, readers of The Republicans are invited to share their feedback about the newspapers. Comments and suggestions can be sent at any time.
