Spooktacular not just for kids anymore
To many Lombard teens and young adults, Spooktacular was a fun event for us to attend in grade school. This year, it is bound to become a fun event for us to attend as young adults, as well.
Before I get too far, I want to make sure everyone is familiar with Spooktacular. Every year, the Lombard Town Centre hosts this very enjoyable fall/Halloween extravaganza in Lombard’s downtown. Spooktacular will take place this Sunday, October 14 from noon until 5pm. The day will include trick-or-treating at different Lombard businesses, games, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, and –of course—lots of food!
Spooktacular has also proved to be an amazing service opportunity, as many Lombard high school students help run the fun games for the younger kids. I know some of my friends will be there Sunday volunteering!
This year, however, Spooktacular has added a new component for young adults…a live entertainment segment that will showcase local Lombard young adults and their immense talents! There are two acts scheduled to perform on the Main Stage (on Park Ave. and Michael McGuire Drive, right by the train tracks) between 3pm and 5pm.
First up will be Glenbard East High School senior, Evan Nowak. He will perform for the crowd from 3pm to 4 pm with his amazing voice and great guitar skills! Evan is has performed on several occasions at Downtown Lombard’s very own The Corner House, where he has been very warmly welcomed by his fellow Lombardians.
Next up will be local band, Dead Feathers, who will perform from 4pm to 5pm. They are a very talented psych rock band that consists of several 2012 graduates of Lombard-area high schools! Dead Feathers has competed in Glenbard East High School’s Battle of the Bands in numerous years, and has also played at a wide variety of venues in the Chicagoland area.
Whether you prefer more of an acoustic sound or more of a rock sound, Spooktacular is the place for you to spend this Sunday afternoon! While you are in downtown, be sure to check out some of Lombard’s local businesses, including downtown’s newest addition…Shannon’s Deli!
Personally, I am really excited to see such great local talent brought to Spooktacular! Please stop by…if not to hear some amazing music, then to support some of your fellow Lombardians. Remember, this is our Lombard…So let’s all go to Spooktacular and paint the town purple!
