Prep Roundup- Lyons, Fenwick win swimming sectionals
LT and the Friars both qualified double digit entries to state meet
The Lions won the Downers Grove South sectional with 301 points thanks to seven event wins.
LT won all three relays and qualified a total of 13 entries to the state meet this Friday and Saturday at Evanston. Senior Elly Vitek won both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200 free. Fellow senior Louisa Hoffman was right behind her in the 100 free and won the 50 free with a time of 24.40 seconds.
Kristine Rosenberger won the 100 butterfly to earn her third trip to state. Juniors Lauren Rosenberger (200 free and 500 free) and Elizabeth Murphy (100 breaststroke) and sophomore divers Kelly Ryser and Kimmy Vitek also qualified for state.
Junior Sydney Veon was the lone Bulldog to qualify for state from the Downers Grove South sectional. Veon finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.20 to earn her spot. RB finished fifth in the team standings with 120 points.
The Friars hosted a sectional on Saturday and won the meet with 347.5 points, qualifying an impressive 16 entries to state.
Fenwick won all three relays, and the 200 medley relay enters state with the second fastest qualifying time. Seniors Haley Wickham (100-yard breaststroke) and Michelle Kalupski (diving), junior Mimi Schneider (100 butterfly) and freshman Kierston Farley-Sepe (100 back) will be Fenwick’s best individual hopes for a state title after winning the sectional race and qualifying with low times. Farley-Sepe also qualified in the 100 fly.
Other individual event winners were Grace Gibbons (200 free) and Colleen Barron (50 free). Barron also qualified in the 100 free. Paulina Kaminski (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke), Adelaide Curry (50 free), Catherine Wallace (100 free) and Maggie Sheean (100 back) also advanced to state.
The Mustangs were sixth at the Fenwick sectional, but didn’t qualify anyone to state.
