Job training program for veterans coming to DuPage County in January

A program to teach veterans the skills to work in the green building fields will be offered in DuPage County starting in January.

Veterans in the program will learn about energy efficiency in buildings and receive certification to work in the field.

Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance "brought the veterans workforce development program to Illinois because it was an ideal win-win," said MEEA Executive Director Jay Wrobel in a press release. "We train returning veterans for jobs at home and those jobs will save Illinois businesses energy and money."

The entire Illinois program is provided free to qualified veterans – Building Operator Certification tuition alone would normally cost $1,250. The BOC program is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development's State Energy Office, with additional funds for the veterans pilot provided by the U.S. Department of Labor State Energy Sector Partnership grant, which is administered by DCEO's Office of Employment and Training in conjunction with the Land of Lincoln Workforce Alliance, according to a press release.

For more information about training or hiring a certified BOC vet visit, or contact Eric Roach at (312) 784-7277.
