Girls cross country
Freshman Lindsay Graham was 10th overall at the Class 3A Niles West Sectional to qualify for the state race at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The Rams finished in 11th as a team.
The Broncos earned their place at state for the third straight year by taking third at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy Sectional at Reed-Keppler Park in West Chicago. Four Broncos ran in a tight pack towards the front of the race. Brittany Fisher (9th place, 18:27), Theresa Connelly (10th, 18:33), Emma Makowski (11th, 18:37) and Catherine Kitz (13th, 18:41) paced Montini.
The Warriors’ season came to an end at the Niles West Sectional. Willowbrook finished 18th in the team standings. Sophomore Shannon Jones was the team’s top finisher in 83rd place.
Ingrid Gonzalez and Chandlyr Kulpa finished back-to-back at 144th and 145th at the Niles West Sectional.
Boys cross country
Vince Booth booked his place at the state meet with a 17th place finish at the Niles West Sectional. Booth ran a time of 15:47.48. The Rams took 10th as a team.
No Warriors advanced to state from the Niles West Sectional. Willowbrook was 13th in the team standings. The top Warrior runners were senior Tim Hyde (35th, 16:04.21) and sophomore Jimmy Funteas (40th, 16:07.95).
Four runners ran as individuals at the Niles West Sectional, but none of them qualified for the state meet. Joe Atria was the top Blazers’ runner in 86th place.
The Blazers won seven of the 12 events at the West Suburban Gold meet at Hinsdale South. Addison Trail picked up wins in the 200-yard free relay and the 400 free relay. Kelly McNamara was first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Colleen Krawczykowski won the 50 and 100 free. Molly Kuenstler was a part of both winning relays and was an individual winner in the 500 free.
