Friday won't just be the first home football game of the season for Glenbard East's football team.
The 7:30 p.m. kickoff against Lake Park is also the first chance for Rams fans to get a look at the new synthetic turf field that was installed over the summer. Glenbard East invites the community to join in the celebration of the grand opening and cheer on the Rams to victory.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for either 6:45 p.m. or immediately after the sophomore football game Friday at Glenbard East. The school has invited community leaders to tour the new facilities; be on the field to support the team as they enter the stadium, and be part of special recognition.
The result of a cooperative effort between the Glenbard East Boosters, Lombard Park District and Glenbard District 87, the new field will be shared between the Lombard Park District, Glenbard East and the surrounding community.
The durability of the new field ensures it can be used for many purposes, including physical education at Glenbard East, additional East athletic events, and community events.
