Police investigating death of circus employee
St. Charles, IL
A death investigation is underway after a circus employee was found unconscious in his trailer at 3:50 a.m. Saturday at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road, according to the St. Charles Police Department.
Performances by Florida-based Piccadilly Circus were scheduled Wednesday through Sunday at the fairgrounds.
The employee, Casey Dale Walker, of Etowah, N.C., was found slumped over a dresser in a trailer bedroom.
Walker’s roommates carried him outside to perform CPR. Paramedics arrived within minutes and continued giving CPR.
Witnesses reported to police that they noticed a bump on Walker’s forehead earlier that night. Another witness reported seeing a metal pipe accidentally fall on Walker’s forehead several hours earlier.
Police also determined that Walker drank several alcoholic beverages with his fellow workers. There were no signs of struggle in or around the trailer, according to police.
Physicians at Delnor Hospital in Geneva pronounced Walker dead at 5 a.m. Saturday.
An autopsy found no apparent cause of death. Police are awaiting toxicology reports.
