Karen Lando, owner of Stonehouse on Cedar, 201 Cedar Ave., has plans to close her 12-year-old antique store in the historic Century Corners shopping area in downtown St. Charles.

She attributed the closure to tough economic times. Despite locals support of small businesses, she said people have to buy more of what they need rather than want.

“I’m a firm believer in small business,” she said. “I’ve had 12 and a half wonderful years.”

Over the years, Lando said she’s developed relationships she knows will not end with her business.

She said she’ll also miss that camaraderie between herself other business owners in Century Corners.

However, she added that she plans to continue going to antique shows. Those interested can receive updates about upcoming shows by joining her email list, here.

While a final sale of 60 percent off everything except antiques and displays is currently underway, a closing date has not yet be set, Lando said.
