Julia Garcia, senior at Willowbrook High School, and Matthew Ly, senior at Addison Trail, received the 88’s Best award for April. This honor celebrates the academic and extracurricular achievements of one student from each school, every month.
Garcia is heavily involved in the performing arts at Willowbrook and has performed in many plays and musicals.
She is also a strong student, and a member of the National Honor Society, the Art Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society, Civitas, the social studies honor society, and the International Thespian Society.
Additionally, she is a member of the cross country and track teams.
After high school, Garcia has expressed an interest in studying psychology and plans to remain active in the arts.
Matthew Ly, a senior at Addison Trail, has distinguished himself with strong academic accomplishments, and is involved several extracurricular activities.
He is involved in the Business Professionals of America, and has taken business classes each year. He is a member of Student Council, the Addison Trail Mathletes, the Science Olympiad Team, the Science Club, Academic Team and National Honor Society.
In his spare time, he volunteers at Alexian Brothers Hospital in the patient rehabilitation center.
In the fall, Ly will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he plans to study computer science or software engineering. He is also considering a career in economics or accounting.
