Go out and have some fun with your father on his day
Western suburbs, IL
Hopefully, you know it’s Father’s Day this weekend — but instead of getting him another set of cufflinks, take your old man out to one of these great events honoring dads in the suburbs.
What better way for dads and their children to celebrate the occasion than live music, comedy and free barbecue — all while raising money for charity.
Former Downers Grove resident and TV personality Mark DeCarlo will be hosting the first Poppa-Palooza.
“Since it’s Father’s Day, what do fathers love more than their kids? Nothing,” DeCarlo said. “We think it’s a good way to get dads from out behind their own grill at home as well as raise some money.”
Poppa-Palooza is set to begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at America’s Historic Roundhouse at 205 N. Broadway in Aurora. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Ticket price includes barbecue and all dads get free raffle tickets.
You can order pre-sale tickets by phone at (630) 264-2739 or online at www.rh34.com.
All benefits raised from the event will go to the charity Almost Home for Kids, an organization that helps transition sick children to their homes when their hospital stays are over.
DeCarlo’s band, Ole Blues Eyes is expected to perform at 7 p.m. and there will be other activities such as a free barbecue, raffles, live comedy shows, golf putting contests, and an auction to win four, front-row tickets to a Chicago Cubs-St. Louis Cardinals game at Wrigley Field.
Strawberry season is underway, and Lynfred Winery is scrounging up all the local fresh strawberries they can find — and for good reason too. Roselle Road, Roselle, hosts this free event from 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20 Contact (888) 298-WINE, (630) 529-WINE, firstname.lastname@example.org, www.lynfredwinery.com.
