Centennial principal presents school improvement plan

Bartlett, IL

Principal Tom Stiglic of Centennial Elementary in Bartlett said he hopes to improve test scores by 5 percent this school year.

The goal was included in the school’s improvement plan, which Stiglic presented at U-46’s school board meeting tonight.

In reading on ISAT tests, 50 percent of fifth grade students and 57 percent of sixth grade students met expectations. In math, 51 percent of fifth grade students and 55 percent of sixth grade students met expectation.

Centennial was one of 18 elementary schools in the district to meet AYP. There are a total of 55 elementary schools in the district.

Although Stiglic said he hopes to improve test scores, he also said it will be hard with limited funds.

Nevertheless, he said the school is implementing new requirements to aid students. For instance, sixth grade teachers at Centennial have spent a day at Eastview Middle School to better prepare and transition students.
